Takehito Kamata

Associate Professor, Sophia University

Takehito Kamata, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor by Special Appointment at Sophia University in Tokyo. His research focuses on international research collaborations, research integrity, research security, science, technology, and innovation policy, higher education internationalization, and Japan-U.S. relations. In 2026, he served as a Japan Chair Visiting Fellow at the Hudson Institute from January to February, with the endorsement of the Council for Science, Technology, and Innovation of the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan.

Presently, he serves as Vice Chair of the International Exchange Committee (2024-present) of the Association for the Promotion of Research Integrity in Japan. Furthermore, he was a fellow in the inaugural Japan-U.S. Science Communication & Policy Fellowship Network Program (2022-2023), which facilitates the connection between scientific research and policymaking between Japan and the U.S. As a member of an international academic honor society, he participated in the Collegiate Presidential Inaugural Conferences in Washington, D.C. (2009 and 2013). His academic achievements include the Josef Mestenhauser Student Award for Excellence in Campus Internationalization (2017) and the Distinguished International Alumni Award from the College of Education and Human Development (2023), both conferred upon him by the University of Minnesota, where he obtained his Ph.D. in higher education. Furthermore, he possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and International Relations, as well as a Master of Public Administration degree, both obtained from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in the U.S.
