Tetsuo Endoh
Professor and Director of Center for Innovative Integrated Electronic Systems (CIES), Tohoku University
Tetsuo Endoh graduated from the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Science in 1987 and earned a Ph.D. from Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Engineering in 1995. He joined Toshiba’s ULSI Research Center in 1987, working on NAND memory R&D and mass production.
In 1995, he became a lecturer at Tohoku University’s Research Institute of Electrical Communication. He is now a professor in the Graduate School of Engineering, director of CIES, and a research professor at Tohoku University and NTT.
His research focuses on 3D device technologies, high-density memory, beyond-CMOS spintronics processors for ultralow-power AI and IoT systems, and low-loss GaN-on-Si power devices for automotive applications.
He has chaired or moderated major workshops and forums, including Spintronics Workshop on LSI, IRPS, ISSCC2020, and IEDM, and has delivered more than 200 invited talks at international conferences.
His awards include the 2001 Nikkei Business Publications LSI IP Design Award, paper awards from JSAP, JVSS, and SSDM, and the 2021 VLSI Test of Time Award for his 1990 FLASH EEPROM work.
He also received Japan’s 14th Prime Minister’s Award in 2016, the 2017 National Invention Award Encouragement Prize for 3D-NAND memory technology, and the 2017 Tohoku University President’s Award.
He has been a Fellow of the Japan Society of Applied Physics since 2012 and an IEEE Fellow since 2023 for contributions to nonvolatile memory and spintronic logic.
