Shuzaburo Takeda

Founder & President, Takeda & Associates

Shuzaburo Takeda is President of Takeda and Associates. He serves as Special Advisor to the President of the University of Tsukuba, Executive Advisor to Nagoya University/Tokai National Higher Education and Research System, and Senior Advisor to The Chertoff Group.

Previously, Dr. Takeda served as Senior Advisor to Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and as Management Advisor to RIKEN. His academic appointments have included professorships at Tokai University, Waseda University, and Kyoto University.

In the United States, he served as Senior Advisor to the President, with the rank of Vice President, of the University of Tennessee System, and held advisory positions at Washington University in St. Louis and Olin College of Engineering. He also served as Senior Advisor to the Lee Iacocca Institute at Lehigh University and as Senior Advisor to The Ohio State University and was a Founding Director of the Business-University Forum of Japan.

For more than 45 years, Dr. Takeda has been closely involved in U.S.–Japan relations and was for decades a close advisor to the late Senator Howard H. Baker Jr., who later served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan. Over the past decade, he has focused on strengthening U.S.–Japan collaboration among universities, government, and industry in digital innovation, AI convergence, and emerging technologies.

Dr. Takeda earned his Ph.D. in physics from The Ohio State University and received its Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award in 2018. He is a member of Cosmos Club in Washington DC from 1992.
