Roy Sugimura 

Dr. Ryoichi “Roy” Sugimura serves as a Supervisory Innovation Coordinator at Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), where he is affiliated with the Research Promotion Division for Information Technology and Human Factors. In addition to this leadership role, he acts as the Chief Collaboration Officer for the ITH Collaboration Promotion Office within AIST’s Intelligent Platform Research Institute (IPRI). Dr. Sugimura plays a central role in shaping international artificial intelligence governance and technical policy as the Chair of the Japan National Mirror Committee for ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42, the standard-setting body for AI normalization.

His professional scope and research management focus heavily on AI safety, machine learning quality management guidelines, formal verification technologies for system risk analysis, and digital architecture development. Through these efforts, Dr. Sugimura bridges innovative research, industry collaboration, and global technical standards.
