Naoyuki Maekawa

Director General, Innovation Department, JETRO

Naoyuki Maekawa serves as Director General at the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), where he leads initiatives focused on cross-border business expansion, technological innovation, and international trade partnerships. Throughout his distinguished career with JETRO, he has held key leadership positions across major global hubs, including roles as Director General of JETRO Seoul and JETRO Mumbai.In addition to his regional leadership, Maekawa has served in executive capacities within JETRO’s Invest Japan framework—notably as Director of the Invest Japan Business Support Division—coordinating foreign direct investment and facilitating strategic collaborations between Japanese enterprises and global partners.

His work centers on accelerating startup ecosystems, driving supply chain integration, and fostering international economic cooperation to connect cutting-edge technology ventures with industry leaders worldwide. 

Mr. Cronin joined Toshiba Corporation in 1988 and has held a variety of executive roles within Product Management, Marketing, Partner and Business Development. In 2019 he joined the Quantum and Digital Solutions Division to lead Marketing and Business Development efforts for Toshiba’s Quantum Security and Networking products in North America. In this role he works with industry partners, universities and organizations in the adoption and deployment of Quantum Safe and Quantum Secured network solutions like Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) that provide a defense-in-depth approach to securing networks now and for the future.
