Makoto Kobashi

Vice President, Co-chair for Materials & Manufacturing Session, Nagoya University

Makoto Kobashi is a faculty member at the Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya University. His research focuses on advanced materials processing, including porous metals, metal matrix composites, and multi-material joining. He is also engaged in the design and fabrication of cellular and porous metallic structures for lightweight and thermal management applications.

Since 2010, he has been working in the field of metal additive manufacturing. He has published extensively on the meso-scale control of light metals, the mechanical and thermal properties of lattice structures, and the development of novel bonding methods for dissimilar materials such as metals and polymers.

His honors include the Light Metals Society of Japan Awards, the Japan Society of Powder Metallurgy Awards, and the Nagai Science and Technology Foundation Awards. He has been actively engaged in industry-academia collaboration and led joint projects in partnership with regional governments from 2016-2024.
