Kaushik Roy

Edward G. Tiedemann Jr. Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University

Kaushik Roy is the Edward G. Tiedemann, Jr., Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University and a globally recognized leader in low-power electronics, neuromorphic computing, and machine-learning hardware. He earned his BTech from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, then joined Texas Instruments, where he worked on FPGA architecture and low-power circuit design.

His research advances energy-efficient cognitive algorithms, circuits, architectures, and neuro-mimetic devices. Roy has supervised 118 PhD dissertations, co-authored two books on low-power CMOS VLSI design, and helped prepare students for influential roles across academia and industry. His honors include the NSF CAREER Award, Humboldt Research Award, DoD Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship, SRC Aristotle and Innovation Awards, Purdue’s Arden L. Bement Jr. Award, an honorary doctorate from Aarhus University, and multiple IEEE, ACM, SRC, and best-paper awards. He has served on major IEEE editorial boards, held distinguished visiting appointments at IIT Bombay and the National University of Singapore, and is a Fellow of the IEEE.
