Family Weekend Events

Below you will find several events for each day of Family Weekend 2019. Continue to check back as we are still working with campus partners to include more activities. To view more information about each event, click on the title.

Purdue University strives to make this program as accessible as possible. Family Weekend will make every effort(s) to provide reasonable accommodations. If any member of your family anticipates experiencing barriers with Family Weekend activities, please let us know. We will provide assistance to the extent we are able.

In order to provide the best experience possible, please submit requests for accommodations by October 1, 2019. Requests submitted after October 1 will be met to the best of our ability. Requests can be submitted through the registration portal or by emailing parents@purdue.edu.

Registration for Family Weekend opened at 12:00 p.m. (noon, EDT) Wednesday, September 11th and will close at 12:00 p.m. (noon, EDT) Wednesday, October 23.

An email was sent to families subscribed to the Parent & Family Connections monthly newsletter at approximately 9:30 a.m. (Eastern) the morning of registration opening with a link to the registration site. When registration opened a link was made live on our homepage and a notice posted on our Facebook page.

Get a workout in at the award winning CoRec on your visit!  You can purchase a one-day pass for $5. You must purchase your pass in person at the CoRec Member Services Desk and your student must be with you when you purchase the pass. Studying abroad is serious business! First, you will be earning credits and grades that will go toward your graduation requirements. Second, you will want to fulfill personal objectives and will have to plan to achieve these goals. Finally, you will be investing serious time, effort, and money on this venture. Thus, it's imperative that you choose a program that will allow you to get a sound return on the investments. How do you decide which program is right for you? Stop by the Study Abroad Office and talk with one of the staff.
Honors College and Residences North Building (HRCN), Honors Hall (indoor)

The Honors College welcomes students and their families into Honors Hall to learn more about the honors experience, and the opportunities available to our students. Through presentations and displays, family members will see the tangible benefits and outcomes of the four pillars of the Honors College: Interdisciplinary Academics, Community & Global Experiences, Undergraduate Research, and Leadership Development.

Stewart Center (STEW), Fowler Theater (indoor)

Stress is often viewed as something we should want very little of. We shy away from it and feel flustered when it rears its head in our lives. This presentation will hit on how we can better relate to stress--even benefit from it, as well as coping skills anyone can use. This engaging presentation will give you new insights into the world of student stress and how you can manage it in your own life. Event open until filled.

Come learn about the traditions of Purdue from the Purdue Reamer Club. The Purdue Reamer Club is the Spirit of Purdue who dedicate themselves to foster the observance of school traditions. This session will be held by members of the Purdue Reamer Club who learned around 60 traditions during their 8 week process to become an official member of the Purdue Reamer Club.

Traditions range from the Purdue Reamer Club, The Official Mascot of Purdue University; The Boilermaker Special, John Purdue, and many more historic traditions and sites of Purdue University.

Just imagine a delicious and nutritious recipe with only five ingredients…

This cooking demonstration focuses on preparing quick, easy, and affordable meals with minimal ingredients. Recipes include Grilled Bruschetta Chicken, Cinnamon Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Parmesan Green Beans, and Sautéed Apples with Granola.

The Demonstration Kitchen strives to make cooking accessible to everyone, by demonstrating delicious recipes and menus that are quick, easy and affordable. Our Student Cooking Instructors will provide you with nutrition information, culinary techniques, and food sanitation guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to sample the dishes prepared during the demonstration you attend.

Tours begin under the mural in the Stewart Center West Foyer (outdoor)

Join Purdue Student Life for a spooky walking tour of campus highlighting true events from Purdue's rich historical past. The cost of this event is $8/person and will benefit the Purdue United Way campaign. Tours will take place rain or shine without refunds. Bring your friends for a spooktacular time and a great cause! Tours from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will also feature trick-or-treating for kiddos (treat bags will be provided).

Tours last approximately one hour and are approximately one mile long (total walking distance).

Note: Storytellers in period costume share historically accurate tales of real events. While the tour is considered family-friendly, some story elements may be upsetting for children.

Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC), Hiler Theater (indoor)

Join the "One Size Fits All" improv comedy troupe for a family-friendly show. They'll make up hilarious games, songs, and scenes right before your very eyes, all based off YOUR suggestions!

Pharmacy Student Services administrative staff will be on hand to meet and greet families and representatives from Pharmacy student organizations will be available to mingle with visitors. Light refreshments provided.
Pfendler Hall (PFEN), main lobby, Leopold's Landing, & Deans Auditorium (PFEN 241) (indoor)

Join the College of Agriculture for refreshments beginning at 9:00 am in Leopold's Landing with a special Welcome Address from Dean Karen Plaut at 9:30 am in the Deans Auditorium (PFEN 241, seating limited). Faculty and staff representatives from each of our departments will be present to interact with our students and families throughout the Open House on the second floor lobby and auditorium.

Students and families are invited to mingle with representatives from their College of Science unit and academic advisors.

Stop by to see Purdue Hillel and enjoy a Bagel and Lox before the game and learn about Jewish life on campus.

Come support Purdue's Hospitality and Tourism Management Program by coming to our completely student-run tailgate! Your event planners for this event are all students of the HTM 362: Event and Meeting Management class. This tailgate is our capstone project for the semester. All of the extra funds this event generates will be donated into the HTM Student fund to fund scholarships for Hospitality students. By attending this event, you will be funding the future!

The ticket office in Mackey Arena will be open three hours prior to kickoff and stay open through halftime. If your student holds season passes, you will need to purchase an additional ticket for your student to sit with you during the Family Weekend football game.

Participants will get to learn about the Pantry's functions on campus and our impact. Afterwards, they can take part in an activity to make bags out of old t-shirts. These bags are used by our clients! Not only are they a way to carry food from the pantry, they are a sustainable item.

Whether your student is planning to live on or off campus, in a fraternity, sorority, or co-operative house, or if you'd like more background on legal matters surrounding leases, this event is for you.
