Family Weekend- FAQs

There are a lot of factors that go into selecting the date for Family Weekend. First, we look at the home football schedule, as we like being able to include a home football game into the weekend. Then, we look at weekends that will not conflict with a break. As a result, we have a limited number of fall weekends to select from.
Parent & Family Connections announced Family Weekend 2019 in early May. An email save the date was sent to all families subscribed to our monthly newsletter. An email was also be sent to families of newly deposited students (provided students supplied parent email addresses). Posts were made to our Facebook page and information was also posted to the front page of the Parent & Family Connections website.

The University does not cancel classes during Family Weekend. If your student normally has classes on Friday and/or Saturday, then he or she will have classes on the Friday and/or Saturday of Family Weekend.

We still encourage you to arrive in town on Friday. There are many activities and events taking place that you may want to participate in without your student.

Registration for 2019 Family Weekend will open at 12:00 (noon, Eastern) on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. The morning of opening, an email will be sent to families subscribed to our monthly newsletter and posts will be made to our Facebook page. Information will also posted to the front page of the Parent & Family Connections website.
While a number of events do require registration (including events with a cost), not all events will require registration.
Yes, if your student will be attending an event requiring registration, you will need to register them.
Yes, we highly encourage you to discuss with your student what events they would be interested in participating in before you register, especially events with meals.
West Lafayette, Indiana is on Eastern Daylight Savings Time (same as New York).
Dress for the entire weekend is casual (typically any Purdue clothing is suitable). The weather varies anywhere from 30 degrees to 60 degrees, so please check the forecast.
Parent & Family Connections is not responsible for making hotel reservations and cannot assist with any issues related to lack of room availability. However, the Greater Lafayette Convention and Visitors Bureau maintain a referral list of available space at area lodging facilities for major weekends in the community. We understand the selected dates for Family Weekend will not work for everyone. The Greater Lafayette Convention and Visitors Bureau maintains a calendar of events happening throughout the year.

No refunds will be processed once registration closes at 12:00 p.m. (noon, Eastern) on Wednesday, October 23.

Paid events outside of those listed above cannot be refunded.
