Purdue’s Office of Industry Partnerships hosting workshop on ISO 9001 certification for research labs

Purdue University’s Office of Industry Partnerships and the Office of Audit, Enterprise Risk and Operational Resilience are hosting a workshop on Monday, November 16 at the Stewart Center. Designed for faculty and lab staff, the workshop will cover the ISO 9001 certification process and how labs can work toward certification.

ISO 9001 certification is a formal, independent recognition that an organization or laboratory’s quality managements systems meet international standards. This certification can strengthen the consistency, credibility, and industry readiness of research laboratories and create more opportunities for research revenue and partnerships.

Purdue University has three research laboratories that have achieved ISO 9001 certification: The High-Speed Propulsion Lab at the Maurice Z. Zucrow Laboratories; the Robert L. and Terry L. Bowen Laboratory for Large-Scale Civil Engineering Research at the Lyles School of Civil Engineering; and the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories at the School of Mechanical Engineering. At an institutional level, Purdue University IT also holds an ISO 9001 certification.

The workshop will be led by Madina Sabirova, chief audit and enterprise risk officer at the Office of Audit, and James Stallings, director of quality and operational resilience at Purdue University’s Office of Audit.

Panelists include Joseph Krok, executive director of corporate relations at the College of Engineering; Ken Sandel, associate vice president of Sponsored Programs Services, senior intellectual property officer and senior research leadership in the Office of Research; Gerald “Jerry” Trepkowski, chief legal officer and secretary of Purdue Applied Research Institute and senior counsel Purdue University; and Amit Varma, Karl H. Kettelhut Professor of Civil Engineering and director of the Bowen Laboratory of Large-Scale Civil Engineering Research at the Lyles School of Civil Engineering.

The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on November 16 in the Stewart Center, room 214. Faculty and lab staff can register here.
