Healthy Boiler workshop to focus on heart knowledge, hypertension
The Center for Healthy Living's “Heart Knowledge” workshop supports the physical health pillar of the Healthy Boiler Program.
The Center for Healthy Living is offering a 12-week workshop titled “Heart Knowledge,” in support of the physical health pillar of the Healthy Boiler Program. The workshop will run from noon to 1 p.m. ET Tuesdays from Feb. 8 through April 26.
Lindsay Bloom, health coach at Purdue Fort Wayne, and Megan Shidler, registered dietitian at CHL, will present the program, which includes six group sessions alternating with six one-on-one health coaching sessions.
“Having high blood pressure (also known as hypertension) significantly increases your risk for serious health conditions, including heart attack and stroke,” Bloom says. “It is important to know what your blood pressure is, and make healthy lifestyle changes now, whether you have high blood pressure or you are trying to prevent it.”
Throughout the 12 weeks, participants will track daily blood pressures with a provided blood pressure monitor and learn how to reduce health risks associated with hypertension.
Those interested in should register by Jan. 25 via the Healthy Boiler Portal. The registration link can be found under the “Healthy Boiler Workshops” section on the portal’s homepage. Hover over the workshop’s button and hit “Submit” to register.
Healthy Boiler workshops are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan.
