“Perfecting Your ‘No-Guilt’ No” is the topic of an upcoming Healthy Boiler workshop, courtesy of Care@Work by Care.com. The workshop supports the behavioral health and work-life integration pillars of the Healthy Boiler Program and will take place virtually from noon to 1 p.m. ET on Feb. 17.
Most individuals are inundated with requests on a daily basis. Saying no can be uncomfortable and awkward, but it’s absolutely necessary to avoid burnout and help individuals remain focused on their most important goals. Learning how to say an effective and appropriate "no" is one of the most vital skills for leaders, yet research shows this is one of the most underused tools, especially for women.
In this workshop – led by Lisa Abramson, executive coach, mindfulness teacher, author – participants will learn a powerful “saying no” framework and get a cheat sheet to help make saying no less stressful in the future. Following the session, participants will have the tools to confidently deliver a firm and appropriate “no” without the side of guilt.
“The majority of us are overwhelmed right now,” says Candace Shaffer, senior director of benefits in Human Resources. “So much is going on in the world, in our jobs, in our personal relationships and more, that it’s difficult to find time to relax and not worry. And for some people, being busy isn’t always a good thing. Our goal in adding the Care.com benefit for the Purdue community was to help faculty and staff better manage their caregiver needs. Being able to offer workshops like this in support of mental health well-being is another benefit we hope employees will find beneficial.”
Registration is now open for the “Perfecting Your ‘No-Guilt’ No” workshop. Registration is due by Feb. 16.
Healthy Boiler workshops are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan.
