Open enrollment for 2027 benefits underway; enroll by 6 p.m. ET Nov. 10
Open enrollment for 2027 benefits is underway, which gives Purdue University and Purdue Global benefits-eligible employees until 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 10, to review current coverage, consider available options and make benefit elections for the year ahead within Benefitfocus.
While most current benefits will continue automatically into 2027, some elections and annual requirements must be completed during open enrollment to ensure coverage and premiums are set up as intended.
Actions to complete for 2027
Employees should pay particular attention to the following during enrollment:
- Tobacco status: Purdue employees who elect medical coverage must complete the tobacco survey each year. Responses may affect medical premiums.
- Purdue Global employees enrolling in life or critical illness coverage must recertify their tobacco status each year in Benefitfocus, even if nothing has changed. Tobacco status may affect premiums for these coverages but does not impact your medical premiums.
- Funding accounts: Elections for health savings accounts, health reimbursement arrangements, flexible spending accounts and dependent care flexible spending accounts must be made each year; current elections do not automatically continue into the new year.
- New dependents: Required documentation for newly added dependents must be uploaded in Benefitfocus by Dec. 1, 2026.
- Working spouse: Purdue employees covering a spouse must complete the working spouse certification annually to avoid the applicable additional premium.
- Employees who need to submit a working spouse waiver form must do so by Dec. 1, 2026, to ensure premiums are correct for January 2027. Additional information is available in the Working Spouse Guide.
- Working spouse certification is not required for Purdue Global employees.
Benefit elections made during open enrollment will remain in effect throughout 2027 unless an employee experiences a qualifying life event.

Note: The service center experiences a higher-than-normal volume of inquiries during open enrollment. Staff members are available to answer calls and emails from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Emails are assigned a case number and are worked in the order received, from oldest to newest. Each ticket received is registered and addressed as quickly as possible. Allowing time for responses is crucial, and if follow-up is needed, it’s helpful to follow up on the original case to avoid duplication and delayed responses.
