Kranthi Varala presented and chaired a session at the annual Plant Biology meeting. The 5-day conference was held in Savannah, GA this year and attracts about 1-2000 attendees from across the world. Kranthi presented his work on Discovering novel TF regulators using gene regulatory networks built from extremely large expression datasets.



ESE/HLA Graduate student Cristian Salinas and HLA Professor Lori Hoagland attended the 4th Plant Microbiome Symposium in Quito, Ecuador. Salinas received a scholarship to help defray the cost of his attendance at the event, and presented a poster titled ‘The role of seed transmitted endophytes in quinoa tolerance to cadmium stress’.



Celina Gomez, along with Sofia Gomez, Maria Paz (University of Florida), Lian Duron, and Dalne Wood, attended Cultivate in Columbus, Ohio last week. During the “Essentials of Hydroponics Production: A tHRive Symposium” workshop, Dr. Gomez delivered a talk that focused on describing the basics of hydroponic plant production.



The Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Weed Science team attended and presented at the Southwest Purdue Ag Center Field Day held on June 28. Emmanuel Cooper talked about organic sweetpotato and Jeanine Arana talked about plasticulture strawberry production.


The International Food and Agribusiness Management Association conference in Christchurch, New Zealand (June 17-22) facilitated a powerful connection between industry and academia, driving innovation and sustainability in the food and agribusiness sector. Peter Hirst was in Washington DC last week to give a presentation during the reporting on the project “Cultural Restoration in Post-Conflict Northern Iraq”. He was joined with colleagues from Purdue, IU, Notre Dame, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, and partners from the University of Duhok in Kurdistan Iraq.
