On August 18, the College of Agriculture held a ‘Welcome Back” Flower Arranging Staff Networking Event taught by Mary Lou Hayden. She walked the attendees through the fundamentals of arranging flowers and the different arranging styles.  Attendees were able to take their creations with them.  Two sessions were offered and quickly filled up.

Gloribel Rosales-Burdin and Robin Tribbett represented the HLA Department at the College of Agriculture’s BGR Carnival on Friday, August 19.  They gave away HLA freebies and answered any questions incoming freshmen have about the programs.


New and returning graduate students attended the HLA Graduate Student Orientation at the Beck Center on Friday, August 19. On Friday, August 19, HLA faculty, staff, postdocs, and grad students gathered together at the Beck Center for the annual fall retreat.  We welcomed new HLA faculty, staff, and graduate students, and the morning was spent on working on HLA’s strategic plan and gaining input on the HLA website. On Saturday, August 13th, Vicki Stirm will be doing an outreach for HLA with high school students from the Center for Leadership Development and Soul Food Project Indy. The Center for Leadership Development is a part of the Indianapolis Youth Development Program. The outreach will involve plant science activities.


Peter Hirst, along with colleagues Amanda Dickson and Mark Russell, are welcoming a delegation from The University of Duhok in Northern Iraq for a 2 week visit to Indiana. This is part of an ongoing project to restore traditional cultural (including agricultural) practices.
