Xu, Simpson win Kinley research awards
Two School of Nursing assistant professors have earned Kinley Awards to support their research pursuits. Both Donna Xu and Vicki Simpson received the honor.

Committed to improving the human condition through a social science perspective, the Clifford B. Kinley Trust funds research related to human welfare.
Xu teaches biostatistics and nursing informatics, and her research explores aging and long-term care, health outcomes and policy, quality of care, quality of life, and prevention and management of chronic conditions. Her winning proposal was titled “Transitions in Care for Older Nursing Home Residents With Dementia From Entry to Death: A Retrospective Cohort Study.”
Simpson received funding for her proposal titled “Building a Model for Health Promotion With Older Adults: A Nurse-Guided Personalized Intervention.” Her research examines the influence of health-risk appraisals on behavior change, as well as the impact of innovative nursing education designs. Simpson teaches undergraduate courses across Purdue’s nursing curriculum.
