Simpson receives Hulman research award
Vicki Simpson has won a Hulman Health Achievement Award for Excellence in Public Health Science Research, presented by the Indiana Public Health Association.

An assistant professor in the School of Nursing, she currently has three funded projects underway. They are “Through the Eyes of Youths: Using Photovoice to Document Food Insecurities,” “Building a Model for Health Promotion With Older Adults: A Nurse-Guided Personalized Intervention” and “Get Healthy Scott County — Recovery Happens Data Hub.”
Through community-engaged research, Simpson seeks to identify factors influencing the ability to live healthy lifestyles throughout one’s life span. She draws upon principles of community-based participatory research, which examines determinants of health and health disparities and is grounded in health promotion and disease prevention theories and models. Her work relies on quantitative and qualitative methodologies to conduct descriptive and intervention studies in partnership with communities, community agencies and health care providers.
Simpson also received the Excellence in Leadership Award from the Delta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International.
