Edwards AANP fellow, recognized by Hartford Center
The National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) has named Associate Professor Nancy Edwards a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing.

As the older population continues to grow, the NHCGNE stresses the need for qualified nurses to meet related health care demands. This will require well-prepared nurse educators who foster positive attitudes toward older adults, actively engaging learners at all levels.
Edwards has worked in gerontological nursing for over 40 years and is the assistant head of graduate programs and the director of the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Practitioner Program in the School of Nursing. She was one of the first at Purdue to integrate geriatric content into interprofessional education.
She also was recently named a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, a distinction afforded to nurse practitioner leaders making notable contributions to clinical practice, research, education or policy.
Among other honors, Edwards received Sigma Theta Tau International’s Amy J. Berman Geriatric Nursing Leadership Award in 2015 for her support of interprofessional gerontological education and significant research contributions to the health care of older adults.
