Purdue Utility Project expands to Colombia in partnership with Universidad de los Llanos

John Lumkes, professor of agricultural and biological engineering at Purdue, and two Purdue alumni, traveled to Universidad de los Llanos in Villavicencio, Colombia in July. Once there, they worked at the local university with Los Llanos professor Alvaro Ocampo to train students and build a version of the AgRover, a multipurpose agricultural vehicle.   Read more>>

Open data hacking competition spans continents, from Purdue to Bogotá

For the second year in a row, students at both Purdue and Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL) in Bogotá concurrently hacked open data to create a solution, in the form of an app, to a civic problem. Sabine Brunswicker, associate professor of innovation and director of the Research Center for Open Digital Innovation, started IronHacks as a way to bring the concepts of open data, or data that is owned by the public, and civic hacking together at Purdue.   Read more>>

Purdue part of two winning proposals for Colombia Cientifica grant

Colciencias, Colombia’s version of the National Science Foundation, partnered with the ministries of education and industry and tourism and Icetex to enhance the country’s academic profile by soliciting proposals for education and research in health, sustainable energy, bioeconomy, and society. The two-part program, Colombia Científica, is aimed at producing more robust research and more advanced-degree graduates. Purdue worked with several Colombian universities to submit proposals.  Read more >>
