Dear friends,

As another productive year draws to an end, I would like to take the time to thank all our hardworking staff and friends for making the Colombia-Purdue Initiative (CPI) possible.

Over the past academic year, our partners, collaborators and staff have supported the growth of several outstanding projects between Purdue and Colombia and initiated new programs. Cacao for Peace initiative

The Cacao-for-Peace Project is a new USDA led program, funded by USAID, with great potential to positively affect Colombian society. As the name implies, cacao production is expected to play an important role in Colombia’s peace process by helping farmers increase their income. Cacao, a native plant to Colombia, is the source of chocolate, a product that has been experiencing a growing demand worldwide.  Read more>>

Bonnie Prado

Bonnie Prado is an outlier in her town. Not only has she had the opportunity to pursue a Master's and a Doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering, but she is now also bringing knowledge to her community.

Ever since she was a child, Bonnie Prado has been fascinated with space and technology. Sci-fi movies and NASA milestones were her favorite topics as a kid, and becoming a space scientist was her dream. In a place and time where fantasizing about becoming an aerospace engineer was for most people a naïve hope, Bonnie made it happen.  Read more>>

INTERCAMBIO meeting: Challenges and opportunities for Atmosphere-Biosphere interactions research in Colombia 

The first INTERnational Conference on AtMosphere-BIOsphere interactions (INTERCAMBIO) was held in Universidad de Antioquia and Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, Colombia from October 31st to November 2nd. This event aimed to promote scientific discussion and collaborative networking among global change researchers in Colombia, and foster their interactions with researchers from Purdue University and other international institutions.  Read more>>
