Before you paste anything in
Purdue classifies data as public, sensitive, or restricted. The labels on each card show the highest classification you may enter in that tool. Read the data handling procedures if you are unsure which category your work falls into.
-
The judgment is yours
No tool checks a classification before it accepts a prompt, so the decision about what you paste sits with you. You’re responsible for the data you share with tools.
-
Signing in matters
Tools like Copilot Chat protect your data only when you are signed in with your Purdue account. Arriving at a public site without signing in removes that protection.
-
AI use needs review
Any new use involving sensitive or restricted data outside of these tools goes to the Data Ethics Committee first, whatever tool you plan to use. Submit a use case.
