Learning About AI

Purdue offers rigorous and comprehensive AI degree programs, such as majors, minors, graduate and online certificates, that prepare students to succeed in their careers and solve the world’s toughest challenges. We also offer online microcredentials and certifications in high-demand technical fields, like cybersecurity and data analytics, geared toward alumni and working professionals. Beginning in fall of 2026, we will implement an AI working competency graduation requirement through an expanded partnership with Google. These offerings and more are outlined in our AI course catalog.

Researching AI

As the nation’s leader at the intersection of virtual and physical AI, Purdue drives groundbreaking research and instigates progress across industries on a global scale. In support of this, we created the Institute for Physical Artificial Intelligence — the nation’s first research institute dedicated to advancing AI in the physical world. We are also driving consequential impact on vertical-defining infrastructures like robotics and supply chain. In addition, we have access to an impressive AI tech stack including the world’s top AI computing and data platforms, top-ranked supercomputers and more than 30 AI models.

Learning With AI

At Purdue, the use of AI spans from the classroom to the real world, supporting student growth and innovation. We are committed to creating a highly skilled workforce with a deep understanding of AI, and we are the first university to institute an AI curriculum requirement beginning in 2026. We also encourage an ethical and thoughtful approach to teaching and learning in coursework and provide relevant guidelines and resources.

Partnering in AI

Purdue and Google recently expanded their strategic partnership, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships that are essential to accelerating innovation in AI. Together, we aim to advance breakthrough research through physical AI and prepare the next generation of AI leaders. In response to AI’s rapidly critical and transformative role across global sectors, we will also introduce a new working AI competency graduation requirement starting with incoming students in 2026. This foundational curriculum will ensure that all Boilermaker students and graduates have working competency in AI tools and applications for the future of work.
