This week’s ‘Thumbs Up’ recipients

"Thumbs Up" gives faculty and staff the chance to recognize others on campus for a job well done. "Thumbs Up" submissions may be made online.

Dave Wagoner

Dave Wagoner (Operations and Maintenance): Dave recently repaired some flooring here at PUSH. Even though it was negative temperatures with the windchill, Dave showed up and was outside mixing concrete to repair the floor. When he was finished with everything, he left the area cleaner than he found it. He even placed all of the chairs neatly back around the table as I had them when he arrived the first day. Myself and others who will use that area appreciate the extra effort he made and wanted to say thank you! — Kandis Chapman (Purdue University Student Health)

Building Services

Building Services: Not everyone knows how the magic happens on campus in the wintertime. Salt just magically appears on sidewalks and building entrances, and steps and other areas that the brushes can’t reach get magically shoveled. It is all from our hardworking Building Services crew, who leave their assigned buildings — often in the wee hours of the morning — to take care of those of us coming in at regular times. It is cold and backbreaking work. I am so grateful for all they do! — Melody Carducci (Purdue Polytechnic Institute)

Suzie Robinson

Suzie Robinson (Finance): I want to thank Suzie for how organized and proactive she is and for how much she helps out everyone in our office. January is a very busy time for the business office, and Suzie’s attention to detail and problem-solving skills have made it a little easier to deal with all the competing demands. We are very lucky to work with such a kind and talented person. — Lisa Rile (Finance)

Kayla Smith, Stephanie Arnett and Ryan Ades

Kayla Smith, Stephanie Arnett and Ryan Ades (all College of Pharmacy): Thank you to Stephanie, Kayla and Ryan for everything that they do for the College of Pharmacy and its students. They go above and beyond to make people feel like they belong. — Katie May (College of Pharmacy)

Christine Schertz

Christine Schertz (Chemistry): Huge thank-you to Christine for always being willing to answer questions and advocate for students! — Katie May (College of Pharmacy)

Eric Barker and Marie Martin-Murphy

Eric Barker and Marie Martin-Murphy (both College of Pharmacy): Thank you to Dean Barker and Marie for all they do for students in the College of Pharmacy! Students feel heard and appreciated by having the PCC hours extended for quiet week studying. Thank you so much! — Katie May (College of Pharmacy)

Jim Smith and his mighty helpers

Jim Smith (Operations and Maintenance) and his mighty helpers: I want to give a big thank-you to Jim and his helpers for accommodating my standing desk in their project to help my area look so much better. You guys rock! Thanks! — Terri Griffin (Operations and Maintenance)

Chris Krull

Chris Krull (Student Success): Chris has been a phenomenal partner to support Marketing and Communications’ work for Purdue University in Indianapolis. She is always willing to connect us with students and support our initiatives. She is a Boilermaker through and through. Thank you, Chris! — Katie Ellis (Marketing and Communications)

Andrew Shuter

Andrew Shuter (Purdue Online): Andrew is one of the best Teaching and Learning Technologies support specialists I’ve ever worked with. He always provides immediate assistance and prompt resolutions to our requests. Thank you, Andrew, for all the support you’ve provided to Global Engineering Programs and Partnerships and the College of Engineering! — Heidi Parker (College of Engineering)

Christy Haddock and Marcia Morris

Christy Haddock (Purdue Polytechnic Institute) and Marcia Morris (Human Resources): A new advisor was hired for the Purdue Polytechnic Institute. The staff member was transitioning from biweekly to salary status, and the systems did not allow for an overlap of status. Christy and Marcia stepped up, took charge of the situation and worked out all the details on a Saturday so the staff member could start on time in their new role without missing a paycheck. The onboarding staff felt very appreciative of their efforts. — T.R. Oneal (Purdue Polytechnic Institute)

Ryan Tyson

Ryan Tyson (Environmental Health and Safety): A big thank-you to Ryan and all his crew at EHS for helping keep our building warm enough during the holidays and these brutal cold days while we have our building’s heat replaced. — Liz Jackson (Forestry and Natural Resources)

Jay Conner

Jay Conner (Fire Equipment Services): A big thanks to Jay and the fire services staff who were so responsive when we had a sprinkler line freeze in the recent cold temperatures. They came out quickly and had it repaired in short order on a frigid Friday evening. — Liz Jackson (Forestry and Natural Resources)

Julie Cox

Julie Cox (Office of the Dean of Students): Thanks to Julie Cox for her unwavering staff support, limitless kindness and exceptional knowledge while navigating difficult and unique situations. — Tessa Winkler (Office of the Dean of Students)

Tyler Eddy

Tyler Eddy (Computer Information Technology): As our scheduling deputy, Tyler has done so much to make the post batch registration easier. He has been helping students switch sections and assisting with critical space needs. I am so thankful to have him in that role! — Melody Carducci (Purdue Polytechnic Institute)

Hillenbrand Hall Service Staff

Thank you to Carrie Crider and her staff, Billy Britton, Courtney Pearson, Heather Moore, Heather Phillippi, Amy Thatcher, Veronica Flores, Fevi Magallanes, Josh Meyers, Stephanie Roudebush and Kennedi Thomas. During the very cold, snowy and icy January mornings, they have come in before 6 a.m. with smiles on their faces, shoveled, salted and made all our entrances and sidewalks safe for our residents. Great job! You are awesome! — Neil McCartney (Hillenbrand Residence Hall)
