Traffic disruptions to occur during Oct. 22 half-marathon on, around campus

Motorists planning to be in the Purdue campus area on Oct. 22 should be aware that traffic will be disrupted during the fifth annual Purdue Boilermaker Half-Marathon.

About 2,500 runners are expected for 5K and half-marathon events, beginning around 8 a.m. and expected to last to around noon. The event, which begins at the intersection of Cherry Lane and John Wooden Drive, will force periodic disruptions on numerous roads in and around campus.

"Essentially, everything from north of State Street to east of McCormick Road and south of Stadium Avenue to Northwestern Avenue will see vehicle traffic restrictions," Purdue police Capt. Keene Red Elk said. "We just want anyone coming to work that day on campus to be aware that they might be stopped for a period or that they might want to take alternate routes. Employees should know that they may have some delays if they're around campus during those hours or they may want to work with their employers to avoid those times if possible."

The half-marathon and 5K will take place on a scenic course through campus, West Lafayette and into Lafayette.
