Media mogul Louis Carr to speak at annual NAMEPA conference on diversity in engineering

Louis Carr, author of "Dirty Little Secrets," will be the keynote speaker Oct. 1 during the NAMEPA National conference hosted at Purdue this year. NAMEPA, the National Association of Multicultural Engineering Program Advocates, consists of more than 50 universities that provide thought leadership in promoting diversity in engineering.

Carr is a media mogul, motivational speaker, philanthropist and author. He is the president of Black Entertainment Television Media Sales and has been listed multiple times as one of the most influential African Americans in the cable industry by the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications. Carr's book shares lessons that have helped him excel in work and in his personal life and ultimately achieve success.

Carr will speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. He will be available to sign books immediately afterward. Student attendees are eligible for a prize from a drawing at the event. Carr's speech is free and open to the public. Interested attendees can RSVP here.

The 2016 NAMEPA conference is titled "100 Shades of Diversity: Broadening Participation by Transforming Minds." The conference, which will be held from Oct. 1 to 4 at Purdue, will feature eight different courses, four special training sessions, three plenary sessions, and celebratory dinners. For these other portions of the conference, registration is required, and late registration is still available. Purdue students, faculty, and administrators can register at a discounted rate here. More information, and registration for non-Purdue attendees, can be found here.
