NASA announced Sept. 22, 2025, that it selected Adam Fuhrmann and fellow Purdue alum Yuri Kubo out of more than 8,000 applicants to join a group of 10 new astronaut candidates. That made them the 29th and 30th members of Purdue’s Cradle of Astronauts.

They reported for duty in September 2025 to complete two years of initial astronaut training.

Fuhrmann, a major in the U.S. Air Force, has accumulated more than 2,100 flight hours in 27 aircraft, including the F-16 and F-35. He has deployed in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and Resolute Support, logging 400 combat hours. He was director of operations for an Air Force flight test unit when selected as an astronaut candidate.

Fuhrmann earned a master’s degree in systems engineering from Purdue in 2022. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in flight test engineering from the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School.
