Nanotechnology Health and Safety Research and Practice

Dr. Candace Su-Jung Tsai is an Assistant Professor in Industrial Hygiene at Purdue University.  She received her Doctorate in Cleaner Production and Occupational Hygiene at UMass Lowell, she also received MS in Chemical Engineering and MS in Management Science and worked many years in the industry.  Led by Dr. Tsai, the EHS research group at CHN where she served as the research manager prior to her appointment at Purdue has been in the forefront of nanoparticle EHS research including occupational and environmental exposures, the safe practices to be followed and engineering control strategies to minimize the exposure. Her publications including the performance of laboratory fume hoods when handling nanopowders and the twin screw extrusion of nanocomposites are the first such papers in the peer-reviewed literature.  She serves as the executive officer in the Nanotechnology Working Group of American Industrial Hygiene Association.  She has been involved in many panels and committees and she has been invited to give numerous seminars and conference keynote speech in the U.S. and overseas.

She will present the current knowledge and status of nanoEHS research and what we need to know about nanoEHS with Mr. Steve Jurss, Safety Officer.
