Food Insecurity in the Time of COVID (and what to do about it)

Center for Global Food Security
June 17, 2021
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Zoom

Description

Have you wondered about how food insecurity is affecting your community during the COVID pandemic? Worried that we could be doing more to help neighbors and children who are missing meals, going hungry or eating food that’s not very nutritious? Wondered how you could help, or get your community to intervene more effectively? We invite you to attend.

Food insecurity in the time of COVID--and what to do about it

Sponsored by the Scholars Strategy Network of Indiana, the Purdue Policy Research Institute, and the Purdue Center for Global Food Security

Thursday June 17, 2021 | 2:00-3:00 pm EDT

Speakers include scholars and activists from central Indiana:

  • Heather Eicher-Miller, Associate Professor of Nutrition Science, Purdue University WL
  • Katy Bunder, President of Food Finders Food Bank, Lafayette, IN
  • Angela Babb, critical human geographer and visiting scholar at IU Bloomington
  • Patricia Boling, Professor of Political Science, Purdue University WL

They will address how COVID has made hunger a more widespread and chronic problem; who’s hungry and what’s being done about it; how our “old” programs are coping in dealing with this new crisis, and how to effectively lobby local and state governments to take needed action. Speakers will only talk for 10 minutes each, and the rest the hour will be for Q and A.

We especially invite journalists, central Indiana mayors, city council members and county commissioners, and legislators/aides from the Indiana State House of Representatives and Senate, as well as interested scholars and activists and community organizers.
