Recently scholars have emphasized the importance of analyzing and recognizing resilience in complex social-ecological systems. Indeed, widespread adverse change in the form of unpredictable ecological conditions, uneven market-integration, restrictive environmental regulations increasingly negatively impacts local communities. As local communities grapple with cultural, ecological, and economic vulnerability, one response is to apply creative and unexpected behaviors to mitigate to and cope with change. Using a case study from the Brazilian Amazon, this paper highlights the resilience of one community by analyzing a long-standing community-conservation partnership.
