Abstract: Biological system (including agricultural and food) has its unique appeal and association with human being. Over the years, many forms of technologies and technological innovations have been developed and integrated for a variety of applications in the “Farm to Fork” value chain.
In this presentation, Dr. Panigrahi will present selected key technologies and inventions (sensors and intelligent systems) developed by his group for different applications in this “Farm to Fork” value chain”. The experience and importance of systems-based, solution-oriented approach while working in cross-disciplinary team will be presented. His current research thrusts to address the global challenges associated with biological domain with convergence and innovation framework will be also be presented. Opportunities for synergistic research and academic collaborations will be discussed.
Bio: Dr. Suranjan Panigrahi is a professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology at Purdue University, USA. He has 29 years of comprehensive experience in research, teaching and outreach and administration. He has cross-disciplinary training and expertise in engineering, biological systems, sensors, electronics, intelligent information technologies, and management science. His research focuses on intelligent sensors, informatics, smart systems, intelligent model and devices for biological, safety and healthcare systems. As an innovator and inventor of multiple technologies, his group adopts interdisciplinary systems-based approach in creating solutions. He was the founder/director of an interdisciplinary research center “Bio-imaging and Sensing center” at North Dakota State University (USA) for 9 years. He has successfully mentored undergraduate and graduate students along with post-docs and visiting professors in different research projects. His ex-students and post-doctoral associates are now faculty members in universities in the USA, Canada and other international countries. Some of them are also engaged in leadership positions in research or management stream. He has provided leadership in multiple professional technical committees. He is a member of multiple professional organizations and a member of the Gamma Sigma Delta Honor society.
