Building Sustainable Communities Open Monthly Gathering (OMG)

Institute for a Sustainable Future
March 31, 2021
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Zoom

Description

All are invited to the first BSC Open Monthly Gathering (OMG). Dan Kelly from the Department of Philosophy and Becca Nixon from the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources and Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant have graciously agreed to kick off the first OMG on March 31 (Wednesday, noon-1 pm). Each of them will talk about a manuscript that they are working on. Following their presentations, we will have some good Q&A and discussion. The idea is that presenters will present their work-in-progress, and we are supposed to be there to support them, ask constructive questions, share ideas, and have lively discussion! Please bring your lunch and join us via Zoom (see information below).

Dan Kelly’s presentation will be about his manuscript titled “Individualism, Structuralism, and Climate Change.” Please see his manuscript attached if you can read it before the OMG. His plan is talk about the context and main claims/arguments for 10 minutes or so, and then open it up to discussion. Becca Nixon’s presentation will be about her manuscript titled “Beyond household size: Diversification, access to capital, and adaptation to social-ecological change across household structures in northwestern Pakistan.” Please see her abstract attached. Her plan is to present for about 15-20 minutes and have the rest of the time for discussion.
