Special Event: Tipping Point Negotiations

Purdue Climate Change Research Center
December 13, 2018
11:30 AM - 2:30 PM
Location information will be emailed after you RSVP

Description

In conjunction with the 2018 AGU Fall Meeting in Washington, D.C., the PCCRC is co-sponsoring and organizing a special session of the Tipping Point Negotiations on Thursday, December 13th from 11:30 - 2:30 p.m. This event is an interactive simulation of the international climate negotiations exploring how climate tipping points relate to the Paris Agreement. While COP 24 will be in progress, participants in Washington, D.C. will gain a deeper understanding of the UNFCCC negotiations, identify decision pathways that are compatible with reaching different temperature goals, understand the likelihood of passing climate tipping points, and related costs and benefits. Participants will not only have the opportunity to engage with colleagues in an informal and learning-oriented environment, but also gain knowledge concerning important current issues (e.g., the IPCC’s Special Report on 1.5°C) and be able to test different negotiation strategies, decisions and actions in a safe environment. You will also receive information resources allowing you to share your insights with your colleagues and to deepen your knowledge after the event.

Attendance is limited, and we would like to encourage you to RSVP by December 1, 2018. For questions and to RSVP, please contact Prof Manjana Milkoreit at mmilkore@purdue.edu or +1 (602) 600-5768.
