Starting a Project

Physical Facilities works with departments or colleges that have a construction need across all Purdue campuses. Follow the steps below to initiate a construction project. Questions about the process may be directed to the construction operations manager or (765) 494-6936.

The client initiates a project or estimate request in the SAP capital projects system

Clients who have been assigned either departmental initiator or facility manager roles should complete the capital projects request for all construction projects, including project estimates, via the SAP portal. Individuals should contact their business office if assistance is needed in determining who has been assigned the noted roles.

Note: The SAP capital projects system and submission process replaces the Project Initiation Form.

Physical Facilities reviews the submitted request

  • Projects with costs estimated to be less than $2M
Approval for projects less than or equal to $750,000 may be granted by the Physical Facilities Chief Operations Officer, projects greater than $750,000 but less than or equal to $1.25M by the Vice President for Physical Facilities and projects greater than $1.25M but less than $2M by the University's Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer.

  • Projects with estimated costs of $2M or more
Following approval by the Vice President for Physical Facilities and the University's Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer, the project will be advanced for consideration and approval by the President, Board of Trustees, and state entities.

  • Projects may require additional approvals depending on project budget, scope or impact on campus.

Clients should check for status updates in SAP

Clients should monitor the status of submitted requests in the SAP portal dashboard. Automated emails will be generated to the individual who submitted the request when an estimate is completed or if a project is canceled.
