August 2016 Newsletter

Welcome Back!

Dear Parents and families,

We’re busy preparing for the start of another academic year and the arrival of a new cohort of Boilermakers.

As part of our preparations each summer, I write to our incoming freshman class outlining the expectations we hold for each student. I think it only fair to also share those expectations with you, an integral part of their support system.

Your child comes to us with outstanding credentials, and these fairly simple rules are likely already a firm part of your value system:

  • Be honest in academics and personal pursuits.
  • Respect others. Differences are not deficiencies, but rather opportunities for learning.
  • Respect the freedom of expression. Open and vigorous debate is natural and necessary at an institution of higher learning.
  • Obey the law in all respects and be particularly wary of the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse.

Our campus abounds in opportunity, possibility and knowledge ready for the taking. Whether your child is joining us for their first semester or their last, I hope you will encourage them to take advantage of it all.

Thank you for building a solid foundation of support for our students to succeed, and for continuing to support them as they begin a new academic year.

We are looking for families eager to foster relationships in their own community and host an event to bring parents together. More information on Parent & Family Socials can be found on our website.

Purdue Parents Fund Spotlight- Purdue Day of Giving

THANK YOU! Last year, nearly 1,000 individuals generously contributed to the Purdue Parents Fund. Here are a few of the MANY resources this support made possible:

  • Center for Career Opportunities Career Closet – provides clothing items and confidence to students who may not have access to professional attire for job interviews
  • Title IX Prevention Programs – provides education and encouragement for women on campus to support healthy relationships and break down opportunity barriers in sports, science and math
  • ACE Campus Food Pantry – provides crucial supplies and support to food insecure students with limited transportation or who may not meet the access criteria of community food resources
  • QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Gatekeeper Program – provides training for faculty and staff to assist students in times of mental health crisis  (350 graduates so far!)
  • Disability Resource Center – provides iPads for the Assistive Technology Center to improve the academic success of students with disabilities

Your financial support is essential to help us meet the ever-growing needs of students. For more information about the Purdue Parents Fund or to make a gift, visit fund.php or please contact Colton Withers, Director of Development for Parent & Family Giving:, 765-496-1105.
