The admissions process selects highly qualified applicants into the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence program by considering each of the following criteria in judging the overall strength of the applicant. Typically, no single criterion is used as a sole determinant for admission.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
- An applicant’s prior education must include the following prerequisites:
- For the major in AI and Machine Learning:
- (1) Prior programming experience and coursework (in Python, Data Science, and/or Computer Science)
- Prior coursework in algorithms, calculus, linear algebra, and probability theory.
- For the major in AI Management and Policy:
- At least 24 months of work experience.
The Foundations of Artificial Intelligence has the following admission requirements:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Professional resume
- Official transcripts from all universities attended, including transfer credits.
- International transcripts may require additional documents. Please note that proof of English proficiency is not required for admission, regardless of your country of origin.
The GRE or GMAT exam is not required for admission. Applicants who have taken the GRE or GMAT exam may upload their scores into the online application system for consideration.

This program does not require an application fee, so you can apply for free. Start by reviewing these application tips to walk through the process, then put together your application packet:
- Complete online application
- Three letters of recommendation
* We accept academic and professional recommendations. The graduate application will ask for recommenders’ contact information, and Purdue University will contact your recommenders directly. Recommendations are required only for the Master’s program, not for the graduate certificate. - Official transcripts from all institutions
- Resume
- International transcripts may require additional documents.
