Purdue sets workshop for grain safety trainers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Instructors who prepare police, firefighters and paramedics for grain entrapment rescues can sharpen their own skills in a workshop offered by Purdue University's Agricultural Safety and Health program.
The workshop will be 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 23, at The Andersons grain elevator, 3854 N. Anderson Drive, Delphi.
Material presented in the workshop will help prepare certified grain safety instructors to provide basic awareness-level training for emergency personnel responding to entrapments and other incidents at grain storage and handling facilities. Information on new training materials for young and beginning workers also will be presented.
There also will be a tour of the grain elevator. To join the tour, participants must bring a hard hat, safety glasses and steel-toed shoes.
At the conclusion of the session, each participant will receive a complete set of the training materials in an electronic format and two videos on grain safety, including the use of lifelines.
The training is free and includes refreshments during breaks and lunch. Participation is limited to fire-rescue instructors who provide continuing education and training to emergency first responders.
