Healthy Boiler workshop to focus on stress-relieving hobbies
Stress is a common factor in the daily life of many. To help employees with stressors they may experience, an upcoming Healthy Boiler workshop will focus on stress-relieving hobbies. The workshop aligns with the behavioral health pillar of the Healthy Boiler Program.
Led by Lindsay Bloom, health coach at Purdue University Fort Wayne, the workshop will take place from noon to 1 p.m. ET on Aug. 18. Attendees will learn about hobbies that are particularly useful in relieving stress as well as resources to get started.
“In today’s stressful world, it’s important to take time for yourself to do something fun,” Bloom says. “Finding a hobby that helps your body and mind decompress for a while and restore some peace and calm in your life, even for a little bit, is beneficial to your overall health and wellness.”
Yoga and meditation have long been encouraged for stress relief, with good reason, but if those things don’t work for someone, there are other options, including journaling, photography, cooking, writing, putting together puzzles and more.
Those interested in attending should register by Aug. 17 via the Healthy Boiler Portal. The registration link can be found under the “Healthy Boiler Workshops” section on the portal’s homepage. Hover over the “Stress-Relieving Hobbies” square and hit “Submit” to register.
Healthy Boiler workshops are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan.
