New process for all international and hazardous materials shipments to begin Monday

Individuals who process international shipments or any hazardous materials shipments – domestic or international – on behalf of Purdue will have a new, automated process to follow beginning Monday (April 25).

Faculty, staff and graduate students who perform these shipping functions for business needs on campus will now use the online submission on the Materials Management and Distribution website. Users will create their account by using BoilerKey credentials to log in and initiate their request. Shipping rates and estimated delivery timeframes will be calculated for Purdue’s shipping carriers based on the information provided, which may result in cost savings to departments.

The information collected online will automatically determine if the package requires further review or processing by Export Controls in the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships, Radiological and Environmental Management or Materials Management and Distribution. One of these offices will finalize the shipment and print all required shipping and materials labels on the shipper’s behalf. Shippers will no longer create their own shipping labels. With the former, manual process, an individual had to assess each package and then route it accordingly for next steps before it could leave campus. The new process creates efficiencies and reduces administrative work.

Finally, the automated process continues to ensure that Purdue is in compliance with export control and sanction laws for all international shipments. It also ensures that shipments comply with U.S. Department of Transportation regulations.

Virtual, instructor-led training sessions will be held April 26-28, and individuals can register to attend online. This webpage includes an overview video of the new process and short, on-demand videos that demonstrate specific shipping tasks.

The new process is the result of a partnership between Purdue and eShipGlobal, a provider of international shipping software. This application replaces the current Form 23 – International Shipping paper form and manual routing process, in addition to the Hazardous Materials Shipping Request Form. All domestic shipments, except those that contain hazardous materials, continue to be processed using Form 23 – Domestic.

Information about international and hazardous material shipping is available on the following websites:
