APRIL 1

Jazz Jam will feature all Purdue jazz ensembles. That could create a traffic jam onstage, but if it does, we're sure everyone will be very cool about it. 8 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Details

HHS Life Inspired, the annual event series from the College of Health and Human Sciences, will have its keynote, "Lessons from Abroad: The Opportunities of a Borderless World," by Dr. Richard Heinzl, founder of the first North American chapter of Doctors Without Borders. 7 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. In the Three-Minute Thesis competition finals from the Graduate School, graduate students will Boiler Up by boiling down a few years of research into three minutes and a single, static PowerPoint slide. 7 p.m. STEW, Fowler Hall. Details

"The Michael Jackson Project" by the SFJAZZ Collective will give an all-star jazz octet an evening for a thorough exploration of the sounds and rhythms of the King of Pop. 7:30 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. $. Details

TEDxPurdueU. You know it. This is so stimulating you won't really need sugar or caffeine. Dare we think, maybe not even your phone? 2 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. $. Details

"Gospel Meets Symphony." Purdue's Black Voices of Inspiration and the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra. Some things just go together awesomely. 7:30 p.m. Long Center, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. $. Details

The Percussion Ensemble Concert will have drum banging, yes, but there's a lot more to percussion than that. 2:30 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Free. Details

Sports week. It's a light week for home events, but keep those fan muscles toned.
* Softball will try to push Purdue toward the Governor's Cup when Indiana comes for a 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. doubleheader April 5. $. Softball
* Men's tennis will seek some net profit in the Big Ten standings, hosting Penn State at 6 p.m. Friday and Ohio State at noon April 10. Men's tennis

APRIL 14

The rock band Panic! At the Disco will fire up a red-hot night of music. 7:30 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. $. Details

APRIL 15

Purdue Theatre will have opening night for "Eurydice," a contemporary reworking of an ancient Greek myth with themes of love, sacrifice and connection. Performances on April 15-17 and 20-23. $. Details

The Band Showcase featuring the Wind Ensemble and Collegiate Band is a really fine way to turn the air in the room into delight in our ears. 8 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Free. Details

APRIL 16

The Challenge 5K run/walk raises funds for the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research. It starts at 8:30 a.m. It's important to read the details ahead of the day. Event  |  Registration

Spring Fest is the most funnest, most awesomest two days of the year (paired Saturday with the Vet Med event, next listing) for the whole family at Purdue. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All over the place. Details

The Veterinary Medicine Open House has a long and excellent history of showing the wonders of the animal world and how humans can care for it. Lots to do and see, starting with a petting zoo. (Sorry, pets not allowed.) 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Lynn Hall and area. Details

Aviation Day is back after its rousing success in … 1911. It will have activities, exhibits and aircraft. Gates open 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; scheduled activities noon-3 p.m. Purdue University Airport. Details

The Purduettes Spring Spectacular always features fabulous voices, harmony and song selection. 7:30 p.m. Long Center, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. $. Details

A second Band Showcase of the weekend will feature the Symphonic Band and Varsity Band. 8 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Free. Details

"Les Violons Du Roy" featuring pianist Alexandre Tharaud will give life to the performance practices of the 17th and 18th centuries. 8 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. $. Details

APRIL 17

Spring Fest has a second exciting day -- well, spit me a cricket. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Details

The Purdue Musical Organizations Spring Show will feature a real treat in variety from four ensembles. 2 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. $. Details

It's another Band Showcase, this one featuring the Concert Band and University Band with their lovely blend and vigor. 8 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Free. Details

APRIL 12-17

Sports week. For baseball and softball, Purdue has introduced nice stadiums and lots of effort in creating a genuine ballpark experience and some good ticket deals. So root, root, root for the home team.
* Baseball has Eastern Michigan at 4 p.m. April 12, then a three-game weekend series against Michigan State at 6:30 p.m. April 15, 4 p.m. April 16 and 1 p.m. April 17. Baseball
* Softball also has a weekend series just across the road from baseball, hosting Illinois at 6 p.m. April 15, 3 p.m. April 16 and noon April 17. Softball
* Women's tennis will welcome Minnesota at 3 p.m. April 15 and Wisconsin at noon April 17. Women's tennis
* Football's spring game starts at 1 p.m. April 16. Some related activities have been announced; watch for word on more. Football
* Men's golf will host the Boilermaker Invitational on April 16-17. Men's golf

The Presidential Lecture Series will bring George Shultz, past secretary of four U.S. Cabinet departments, to talk with President Mitch Daniels and the audience. 6:30 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Details
