Upcoming Healthy Boiler workshop to raise skin cancer awareness

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined. In recognition of Ultraviolet Safety Month in July, Whitney Soto, RN health coach at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL), will present a Healthy Boiler workshop titled “Skin Cancer Awareness” from noon to 1 p.m. ET on July 23.

“The sun can positively influence our lives in many ways,” Soto said. “It helps release serotonin (our ‘feel good hormone’), helps with the production of vitamin D and even helps improve sleep quality. However, it’s also important to understand the risks of overexposure and take proper precautions when spending time outdoors.”

Workshop attendees will learn about the benefits and risks of sun exposure, considerations to take when in the sun and ways to protect their skin to help prevent a skin cancer diagnosis. The workshop supports the physical health and behavioral wellness pillars of the Healthy Boiler Wellness Program.

Those interested in attending should register by July 23 prior to the workshop’s start time via the Healthy Boiler Portal. The registration link can be found under the “Healthy Boiler Workshops” section on the portal’s home page. Hover over the “Skin Cancer Awareness” workshop square and click on the information “i” to register.

Healthy Boiler workshops are free to all benefits-eligible employees and their dependents.
