Melissa Covarrubias recently joined the team at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) as a behavioral health counselor. She serves benefits-eligible employees and dependents covered on a Purdue health plan with counseling needs.

Covarrubias earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2011 and her licensure in social work (LSW) in 2015. Covarrubias began her social work career as a home-based therapist and then transitioned into an outpatient group therapist for adults and adolescents in the health care field before joining CHL.

Providing comprehensive care – in conjunction with the other CHL providers – and helping patients reach their full potential is something Covarrubias is looking forward to doing on an ongoing basis.

“I believe that having a positive and healthy mindset helps us reach our goals and to feel better mentally and physically about ourselves,” Covarrubias says. “By changing our thoughts, identifying our feelings and being open to change, we are able to make healthier choices and have a better quality of life.”

The addition of Covarrubias to CHL brings the number of behavioral health counselors there to two. Amanda Hathcock has been at the center since 2018. Together, Hathcock and Covarrubias can provide ongoing, long-term behavioral health care to Purdue employees, which supports the behavioral health pillar of the Healthy Boiler Program.

To schedule an appointment with Covarrubias, call CHL at 765-494-0111 or schedule online via the patient portal.
