IDA+A Staff Present at Professional Organizations April 2025

Purdue University’s Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) team recently showcased their work at two professional organizational conferences: Indiana Association for Institutional Research (INAIR) and Higher Education Data World (HEDW). These conferences provided a platform for the team to share their innovative approaches to data visualization and data governance.
During HEDW, Kendal Kosta-Mikel and Gabrielle Kraus delivered a presentation titled “Purdue’s Data Governance: Inception to Expansion.” They traced the evolution of Purdue’s data governance program from its inception in 2017 to its current state, detailing the factors driving its growth and outlining future plans for managing rapid expansion.
Brittany Pierson also represented Purdue at HEDW with her presentation “Visualizing Data Models with Tableau Dashboards.” She discussed the transformation of complex data models into accessible Tableau dashboards, addressing challenges such as the failure of creating an extract for the dashboard and building user trust through visual comparisons of actual performance versus model recommendations.
Additionally, Cole Wetzel’s session “Closing the Gap: Standardizing and Scaling Change of Degree Objective (CODO) and Change of Location (COLO) Reporting” at HEDW focused on Purdue’s efforts to standardize reporting practices for CODO and COLO students. He highlighted the methodologies used to track and analyze these student populations and demonstrated how Tableau visualizations have enhanced data accessibility for stakeholders across the university.
At INAIR, Stephanie Dykhuizen and TJ Ptak, an undergraduate student data governance assistant, presented “A Recipe for Broader Metadata: Purdue’s Data Governance Reach with Data Cookbook.” Their session highlighted how IDA+A has expanded its data governance reach using Data Cookbook. They emphasized the importance of collaboration with non-traditional partners and the significant contributions of student assistants in documenting institutional processes.
These presentations underscore IDA+A’s commitment to contributing valuable insights to the broader higher education community.
