The HLA Spring Fest Tent experienced tremendous success last Saturday, overcoming a slow start due to the chilly morning. By 1:00 PM, volunteers had distributed an impressive 800 plant necklaces to eager visitors!

This year’s featured plant, the Rattail Crassula, was expertly propagated by Alexandra Jewell, whose exceptional work ensured high-quality plant material for all visitors.

The tent buzzed with activity throughout the day as various HLA student organizations and programs offered engaging activities. PASLA created a welcoming space for children with their doodle area and free temporary tattoos, adding a creative element to the festivities.

Purdue Extension Master Gardener volunteers from Tippecanoe County were on hand to answer gardening questions from the public and challenge visitors with an insect identification activity. Special thanks go to EMG Volunteers Kathryn Reeves and Mike Hathaway for their informative container garden demonstrations that inspired many attendees to try new gardening techniques.

Meanwhile in the HORT Greenhouse, Purdue Horticulture Society and the Purdue Student Farm Organization hosted their highly anticipated annual plant sale, providing a wide selection of plants for indoors and outdoors.

The success of the event wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated HLA volunteers who took time out of their Saturday to help with the plant necklaces: Jeanine Arana, Linda Prokopy, Alexandra Jewell, Kristina Cooley, Brandy Pinkard, Katelyn Rockey, Erika Grams, Celia Corado, Maria Moreno, Helen Nocito, Vera Vukovic, Isaac Damer, and Layne Krug. Their enthusiasm and hard work ensured a smooth experience for all visitors.

The early morning setup crew deserves special recognition, with Pam Fisher, John Orick, Karen Mitchell, and Alexandra Jewell arriving early to prepare the tent for the day’s activities. Finally, a thank you goes to Pam Fisher for her organization of the entire tent operation, coordinating the various groups and ensuring a cohesive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
