Horticulture Weed Science Lab Awarded NCR-SARE Grant

On December 14 the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program announced its list of 2023 Research and Education Awards (NCR-SARE’s 2023 Research and Education Awards – SARE North Central).

A project entitled “Exploring Underutilized Weed Management Methods on Indiana Small Farms Through On-Farm Research, Community Learning, and Farmer-to-Farmer Education” was awarded $249,669. The project is lead by Stephen Meyers with Co-PIs Petrus Langenhoven, Steven Hallett, Chris Adair, and Nathan Shoaf.

The three-year-long project will explore reduced-tillage, non-herbicide, and non-plasticulture weed management methods to gain greater awareness and adoption of these practices among small farm operators in Indiana and the Midwest. Through on-farm and grower collaborator research and outreach, we hope to learn alongside Indiana small farmers.
