Ariana Torres received funding from the HRI (Horticulture Research Institute) to work on the Marketplace Acceptance of Native Plants. She will be working with collaborators from University of Tennessee, University of Delaware, and Michigan State University to investigate consumers’ demand, preferences, and attitudes for native plants.

Ariana Torres and Ben Van Dyke Co-Leading Spring Break Study Abroad

Ariana Torres and Ben Van Dyke are co-leading a Spring Break Study Abroad program to Southern Spain. They and 18 students will visit the largest greenhouse fruit and vegetable production (13,000 hectares) in El Ejido. Other production systems included in the program are: olive oil, manchego cheese, bullfighting breeding, horse breeding, citrus production.

The multistate group titled Sustainable Practices, Economic Contributions, Consumer Behavior, and Labor Management in the U.S. Environmental Horticulture Industry met to discuss project’s outcomes and new data collection efforts. We also visited ornamental growers in Florida adopting automated machinery and growing specialty ornamentals.
