Purdue trustees ratify faculty positions, award posthumous degrees, approve resolutions of appreciation

The Purdue University Board of Trustees on Friday (Oct. 7) ratified eight faculty positions, awarded two posthumous degrees and approved resolutions of appreciation for friends of the university. The newly ratified positions are: * Hong Tan, who was named the Keysight Professor in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. * Jianxin Ma, who was named the Dean’s Chair in Soybean Genomics. * Veera Gnaneswar Gude, who was named the NiSource-Meyer Charitable Foundation Professor at Purdue Northwest. * Luna Lu, who was named the Reilly Professor in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering. * Young-Jun Son, who was named the Ransburg Professor of Industrial Engineering. * Chris Coleman, who was named the Mark and Maureen Miller Head of the School of Nursing. * Ceridwyn King, who was named the White Lodging Services Head of the White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. * Stephan Biller, who was appointed the Harold T. Amrine Distinguished Professor of Industrial Engineering.

Opioid overdose detection and response startup receives four-year, $2.8M Fast-Track SBIR grant from NIH

Rescue Biomedical has received a Fast-Track Small Business Innovation Research, or SBIR, grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop its technology that detects when a person is overdosing on an opioid and delivers naloxone to reverse the action. Hyowon “Hugh” Lee, Rescue Biomedical CEO, said the company looks to partner with recovery clinics and clinicians to identify and work with opioid use disorder (OUD) patients at high risk of overdosing again.
