A meeting of the Physical Facilities Committee of the Board of Trustees convened at 10:21 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, in Room 326 of Stewart Center on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.  

Committee members present: Gary Lehman, chair; Sonny Beck; Kevin Boes; and Michael Klipsch. Theresa Carter participated via conference call.  Trustees present were: Michael Berghoff; JoAnn Brouillette; Vanessa Castagna; and Malcolm DeKryger; and Shawn Taylor

Officers and administrators in attendance were: Mung Chiang, president; Patrick Wolfe, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity; Eva Nodine, senior vice president, assistant treasurer, and assistant secretary; Steve Schultz, senior vice president and general counsel; and Cindy Ream, corporate secretary and senior executive assistant to the Board.

I. (WL) APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

Upon proper motion duly made and seconded, the Physical Facilities Committee voted unanimously to approve the minutes of Committee meetings convened on August 4, 2023, October 6, 2023, December 8, 2023 and an Executive Session convened on May 8, 2024.

II. APPROVAL TO PLAN, FINANCE, CONSTRUCT AND AWARD CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS BUILDING

Jay Wasson, vice president for physical facilities and chief public safety officer requested approval to plan, finance and award construction contracts for the Academic Success Building. Mr. Wasson provided details for the Academic Success Building. He shared the project will construct a new, approximately 248,000 gross square foot building at the intersection of West Street and Michigan Avenue creating a welcoming arrival to the Indianapolis campus. He noted the mixed-use facility will provide several classrooms and laboratories for academic programming, along with nearly 500 beds for residential use and a dining area with almost 400 seats. Mr. Wasson stated the project will construct the first new building on Purdue’s Indianapolis campus, accessible to students, local and global partners and the Indianapolis community. The scope and location of this project align with the upcoming Indianapolis campus master plan. The estimated total project cost is $187,000,000.00 and will be funded by non-fee replaced – auxiliary housing dining: $105,000,000.00; capital cash appropriation: $60,000,000.00 and gift funds $22,000,000.00. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2025 with an estimated completion date of May 2027. 

Upon proper motion duly made and seconded, the Physical Facilities Committee voted unanimously to recommend full Board approval.  Supporting materials were filed with the minutes.
