Operations & Maintenance

Class of 1939 Water Sculpture

Our Operations and Maintenance department is responsible for maintaining the iconic fountains on the West Lafayette campus.

Grounds

Landscaping

Campus flowers are propagated and grown in the department’s greenhouses. Flowers are then planted and maintained in flower beds, pots and hanging baskets around campus.

Amelia Earhart Terminal

The Amelia Earhart Terminal at Purdue University Airport (LAF) officially opened in 2025. The airport currently offers United Express flights operated by SkyWest to Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

Nearly 300 Emergency Telephone System (ETS) boxes are located at almost every street intersection and other strategic locations on campus. The ETS boxes are yellow or black, have a blue light on top and are marked “EMERGENCY” or “911.”

Purdue is participating in the League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly University program, and feedback from the Purdue community is an important part of the evaluation.

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members who are familiar with bicycling at Purdue are encouraged to take the survey and share their thoughts on campus bike programs, facilities and amenities. 🗺️🚲

🚨 PurdueALERT tests are scheduled for Tuesday, Sep 🚨 PurdueALERT tests are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29. 

The fall semester tests of Purdue’s emergency warning notification system will take place at: 

📍 West Lafayette: 10 a.m. 

📍 Indianapolis: 10:15 a.m. 

In West Lafayette, outdoor emergency warning sirens will also be activated, weather permitting. Campus community members should expect test notifications through multiple PurdueALERT channels at both locations.

Parking restrictions will be in place Friday and Saturday (Sept. 25-26) for Purdue’s home football game. 

🚗 Friday: Select RV and Discovery Park lots must be vacated by 4 or 5 p.m. 

🅿️ Saturday: Event parking begins at 8 a.m. in the Northwestern Avenue and University Street parking garages. Vehicles should be removed by 6 a.m. 

🚧 Some lots near Ross-Ade Stadium will also close at 6 a.m. 

Normal parking operations resume at 2:15 p.m. Saturday.

🛴 Riding an electric scooter or other EMPV around 🛴 Riding an electric scooter or other EMPV around campus this semester? Make sure you know the rules before you ride. 

A few reminders for personally owned electric and motor-powered vehicles (EMPVs): 

📱 Register your EMPV with Parking Operations every two years. 
 🏢 Do not operate, store or charge EMPVs inside university buildings. 
 🔒 Park only at bicycle racks, bicycle pads or designated EMPV parking locations. 
 🅿️ EMPVs may be stored at U-racks in the Grant Street, Harrison Street and Northwestern Avenue parking garages. 

Following these regulations helps keep campus buildings and pathways safe for everyone.
