After several days of rough seas and strong winds, the weather has finally cleared, and the expedition team is heading back to the lagoon on Nikumaroro. Once there, they will quickly get to work on the second of three planned phases in investigating the Taraia Object to determine if it is Amelia Earhart’s missing plane. The search for Amelia Earhart’s missing aircraft continues. Rough seas have prevented the Taraia Object expedition team from safely returning to shore on Nikumaroro. The crew is extending its trip, with improved weather conditions expected in the coming days. In the meantime, the team has completed an initial underwater survey, conducted archaeological work, and set up a solar-powered system to monitor weather and tides. At least two more days of fieldwork remain before researchers can determine what the Taraia Object might be. Stay tuned for more updates from the South Pacific.
