Pinney Purdue Field Day will offer education on topics from weed management to soil sampling

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Extension will host a field day at the Pinney Purdue Agricultural Center (PPAC) on Aug. 22. Field days are educational opportunities offered throughout the summer by Purdue Agricultural Centers and Purdue Extension. These events provide information about crop production, farm management and land use.

Chris Hurt, professor of agricultural economics, will kick-off the PPAC Field Day at 8:15 a.m. with a general outlook on the farm economy. His talk will touch on weather patterns, tariffs and the farm bill. An update from professors and Extension experts on weed fighting tactics, corn management, pests and several other topics will follow. The Indiana Soybean Alliance and Indiana Corn Marketing Council and over 25 other sponsors and exhibitors will provide a pork chop lunch at noon for attendees. The PPAC Twilight Program, which runs from 5:30-8 p.m. CDT, will include presentations on weed management, efficient soil sampling and how to protect pollinators.

Continuing education credits for private and commercial applicators and crop advisers are offered for both the field day and twilight program

PPAC is located on the border of Porter and LaPorte Counties at 11402 South County Line Rd., Wanatah. The center boasts 664 acres with 560 tillable acres and roughly 45 acres of woodland.
